SUBTRACTIVE MINIMALISM IN MOTION
This campus canteen stands as a testament to minimalist design and innovative architectural philosophy. While the façade has a strict grid system at first glance, there’s an artful subtraction of structural elements, with the design embracing absence to achieve architectural impact. This “violated grid” approach creates an interplay of rhythm and interruption, manifesting in perforated walls and expansive volumes that redefine conventional spatial constraints.
The canteen’s towering 40-foot-high ceilings and open, airy interiors are thoughtfully designed to contrast against typical enclosed environments of workspaces. This architectural decision caters to the subconscious psychological needs of users, offering a restorative, expansive space for midday breaks. With its seamless integration of light, air, and views, the canteen provides a transformative experience for its users, promoting mental well-being through its openness and connection to the external environment.
